Raven Space Systems Inc. is a Kansas City-based innovator in aerospace-grade composite materials. Co-founded by Blake Herren and Ryan Cowdrey, Raven is advancing Microwave Assisted Deposition (MAD) 3D printing technology for lightweight and thermal protection structures. Supported by NASA, AFWERX, and the NSF, Raven’s breakthroughs are transforming aerospace and defense manufacturing, with key support from the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Kansas.
Raven Space Systems Inc. has quickly become one of Kansas City’s most innovative companies, addressing the high costs and long lead times of aerospace-grade composite materials. Co-founded by Blake Herren and Ryan Cowdrey, Raven is developing Microwave Assisted Deposition (MAD), a breakthrough 3D printing innovation for lightweight structures and thermal protection in aerospace and defense. Raven’s technology will help alleviate supply chain bottlenecks for high-temperature applications like solid rocket motors and hypersonics.
Raven has received $1.5 million in non-dilutive funding from NASA, AFWERX, and the NSF and has participated in NSIN's 2024 Hypersonic Cost Reduction Challenge, with support from Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR). Both initiatives were coordinated through NSIN’s Regional Network Team and the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Kansas.
